Tick sheets and normality

Monday was Poppy’s birthday which has a blog post all of its own 🙂

Unfortunately the girls hamster Violet died 😦 Poppy was v upset especially with us finding her on her birthday although I believe she probably died the day before. They found a little heart-shaped box to put her in along with some bedding, food, a flower and a little letter wishing her a lovely time in heaven. They wanted my Dad to bury her in his garden along with all our other animals!

With it being Poppy’s birthday, Skye didn’t go to dance. Must mention that Skye received her results from the dance exam she took in November. Highly Commended for both Musical Theatre and Jazz – not bad as she has been dancing less than a year 🙂 Well done Skye – we are so proud of you x

Tuesday we sat down together and came up with a list of all the things we wanted to achieve in a week and created a tick sheet (the same as the Beans use so thank you ;)) which they seem quite excited about! The reason is that i feel we have little structure to our days and sometimes struggle to get started so hopefully this will guide them into seeing what they have and haven’t achieved in a week and will motivate them to get on with something. Both girls did some reading, Poppy did some exercises from her Letts English book and both used BBC Bitesize for literacy and had some fun with the games, in particular State of Debate on KS3 Bitesize. Although I’m a bit disappointed that the BBC have had the same games on there for ages, you would think they would come up with some new ones! Creative writing started back today at a new venue, which unfortunately is a bit further away but we decided to go. As it happens it wasn’t that much further than the old venue and there are various routes to take so will have to see which one is quicker.
Started off by writing down a place in each childs books, ie a deserted city, a desert island, a shopping centre, an alleyway and they had to imagine they were in this place alone and describe their surroundings, feelings and emotions. The girls seemed to quite enjoy this 🙂 Then they were all given a paragraph from a book and had to continue writing the story in their own words in keeping with the style. Skye did a great job and made a fairly seamless transition from the given text to her own work. Poppy was least keen on this task but gave it a go 🙂

Arrived home in daylight, just! Tea on, Poppy started to watch a film, Night at the Museum, and Skye went on CP. Scouts for Skye, Skipper walking for the rest of us, collected Skye, girls to bed, Wayne and I watched tv. I have got a bit addicted to an app that I’ve downloaded, Alchemy. You start off with 4 elements, fire, water, earth and water and you have to combine them to discover new ones. There is an animal one too which I have downloaded for the girls.

Wednesday no latinetc as most were at Centre Parcs. Spent the first 3 hours crocheting! Unfortunately it was quite a frustrating experience as both girls were wanting me to help but being a beginner myself was proving rather difficult. Might seek a little guidance from NattyEm when we see her at Merry’s in a couple of weeks 😉

Lunch, working from tick sheets, so various tasks completed, french, maths, english, reading along with some baking and art. Took Skipper for a long walk, in the rain but was good to get some fresh air.

The girls decided not to stay over Mum and Dad’s tonight, chosing to stay at home with daddy so he wasn’t home alone whilst i went out with a couple of friends. Aww bless 🙂 Was lovely to spend time with friends catching up although one friends dad has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, they were told on Christmas day and they ave said he may only have 2-4 weeks left. Very sad 😦

I got home rather late to find that Skipper needed a walk so off I went. To be honest I quite enjoy walking him, i certainly feel better for getting up and out in the fresh air. Music on, brisk walk, fab.

Thursday work. Picked up girls who had worked reasonably well and managed a few more ticks on their sheets 🙂

Watched the new Karate Kid film which was v good. Will Smiths son is a fantastic little actor, just like his dad!

My intention was to flickr and blog but just didn’t get round to it 😦

Friday work again, picking up this week, phones were v busy but paperwork side not too bad at the mo 🙂

Wayne caught up on phone calls and paperwork at home, leaving the girls to continue with tick sheets, which we can’t find 😦 hoping we’ve left them at Mum and Dads! Think some maths, reading, art, bike ride, not sure what else.

We were planning to pop to a friends in the evening after Skye’s dance class to exchange christmas pressies but they had other plans so we watched another 2 episodes of Merlin 🙂

This morning I woke up at 5.30 so decided to throw on some clothes and walk the dog then catch up with some blogging and flickring whilst the rest of the house slept 🙂

….still blogging whilst girls played, watched tv, crocheted, dog walked….

and finally finished 🙂 Off to watch more Merlin – will have to look at getting Series 2 soon!

keep toying with creative writing but feel that Rose will get very little out of it. it also seems to clash with 10yo+ bowling that i suspect they would both rather do. unless CW&B alternate on different Tuesdays? hmm will have to see.
