Getting organised

Despite wanting for the girls to have a child led home education, they really do best with structure and direction, which they would agree with, however we have not been particularly good at giving that lately so in an effort for the girls to make better use of their time we had a big sort out of all their work books which we have collected over the past couple of years so that they can help themselves to something and get on with it which is ability appropriate and can be located easily instead of trawling through a whole two bookshelves trying to find something. I read about having a quiz jar, basically a load of quiz questions on a variety of subjects, history, maths, general knowledge are put into a jar and randomly picked out and asked. The girls have really loved this and Poppy often adds the jar when laying the dinner table so we can ask them questions!

When the girls were at school they had learning logs to complete, which at the time were a complete inconvenience and caused a number of arguments and tantrums as we had to fit in completing the tasks/projects set in these books mainly over a weekend or evenings and used to take hours sometimes! Generally I think they are a great idea but just not if you have to fit them around school! For home ed they could be fab – they are a bit like lapbooking but its all in one book, like a scrapbook. Anyway, we are going to incorporate one of these types of books which will hopefully encourge them to finish a task and will put an end to the loose bits of paper floating around filled with random poems, stories and pictures!

We have also reintroduced tick sheets as they seem to help but lack of printer prevented me from printing them out and they just got forgotten. Apparently they like having tick sheets, as do i ๐Ÿ™‚

We have also started to encourage more helping around the house so we can spend more time helping them with the things they need help with! To be honest, Wayne is a bit of a fairy godfather, tidying up and putting away after them and I think they believe things clear themselves away!

We have been up to the allotment, dug over two plots and planted beetroot, leeks, carrots, courgettes and spinach. We have peppers, tomatoes and some more courgettes growing in the greenhouse along with sweet peas which really need planting out. The potatoes are doing really well and we also have spinach and carrots in pots in the garden. Really want to get some corn, squash and pumpkin seeds planted up the allotment so will aim to get that done this weekend.

We have put lots of bits on ebay, security fencing from our house build some 4 years ago!! a couple of the girls bikes and some other bits that have just been gathering dust!

I feel better already! ๐Ÿ™‚
