Artetc – Fantastic Felines

Whilst browsing Pinterest, I came across some very cute cat pictures inspired by the artist Laurel Burch, an American folk artist. Merry dropped 3 of her girls off with me whilst she attended some appointments so i wanted something uncomplicated and fun. I began by introducing them to the artist and showing some of her work. Then we started creating our own fantastic felines by applying water colour to paper then whilst that was drying, created our cats using watercolour, oil pastels or felt tips. I had sketched some examples for them to use as a guide. Once complete, we cut them out and stuck them to our watercoloured paper.

Fantastic felines

Next we used white oil pastel to create a cat outline on black card, drawing in patterns then colouring in with oil pastels. These looked great 🙂

Finally I encouraged them to create their own animal in the style of Laurel Burch and applied them to some scrapbooking papers.

Poppy's dog

Maddy's hamster :)

Josie's owl

Skye's fox

Ams lioness

They all did a great job and really grasped the concept 🙂 I would really love to make some papier mache cats too in this style, will have to have a think about that one.

The weather was gorgeous today so we spent a long time at the park, Skye took along her camera and took some really lovely photos of the girls playing 🙂

Back home they played out on the trampoline, watched a film and did some doodling 🙂

In the evening Skye went to Explorers, Poppy and I had to go and buy a new kettle as ours stopped working today 😦 Arrived home in time for the Great British Bake Off 🙂
