WedEd – Food science with pretty colours ;)

A full house for WedEd for the first time in ages! πŸ™‚

Inspired by some poetry we have been doing this week, Skye chose to gather everyone for a creative writing session πŸ™‚ She explained that a Tanka poem consists of 5 lines, lines one and three have 5 syllables and lines two, four and five consist of 7 syllables. She read out some examples and then asked them to create their own. They all seemed to enjoy it and came up with some very imaginative poems! πŸ™‚

Helen did food science, they prepared themselves for the lesson by reading s-cool and bbc bitesize as well as chapter 4 of their Biology for You book. Although I am not particularly sciency, I do love Helen for bringing pretty colours into my kitchen πŸ˜‰

After everyone had gone home, Wayne took the girls to my Mums as F wanted a fringe cutting in and that’s definitely not a job for me! Mixed feelings about it at first but she is happy with it now πŸ™‚

An eventful week

Lots has happened this week to make life difficult! On their way to try out a local multi-sports session, the car broke down so Wayne and the girls were stranded on the motorway. Whilst I tried to sort our getting breakdown recovery the police came to their rescue. They managed to drive the car to a garage, it appears that it may have been dirt in the fuel tank or something. However, before Wayne could leave, the police informed him that the car had no insurance!! It did and it was a bit of a long faff trying to find emails etc as I was at work. All ok in the end, but because the car was new to us it takes a while to appear on the database. An added problem was that the registration number had been entered incorrectly 😦 Thankfully all was sorted and although they didn’t make it to multi-sports the car seems to be working ok.

The girls have been working really hard this week. Β Tick sheets are still working really well, we have re-jigged a little and they have a sensible amount to get done each day. Β F is Β adapting well to home ed, Β I think she enjoys the freedom of choosing what she wants to work on each day.

Poppy and F started Scouts, I didn’t think they would like it but they did πŸ™‚ Poppy was doubly happy as she got to see one of her best friends she had at school and is in the same patrol as her πŸ™‚ Β They went to their dance class again and both loved it πŸ™‚ phew! I was a bit worried that F wouldn’t want to go again if she didn’t enjoy it this week.

Skye was invested as an Explorer πŸ™‚

My sister and family came over yesterday for a surprise birthday dinner for my Mum and Dad and parked their car round the corner so as not to spoil the surprise. This morning woke up to floods 😦 They waded to their car to discover it had water in the foot wells 😦 Wayne, my dad, my sister, her partner and I went out, over our knees in icy cold dirty water to push the car to higher ground, then had to scoop out all the water. Absolutely freezing, water up to our thighs!!! Thankfully it starts ok. Really did not expect that amount of flooding! At 4am it was clear!

Despite the flooding, we had a really lovely weekend πŸ™‚ I can’t believe my Mum is going to be 60!! She looks fab πŸ™‚

Settling into things and first WedEd of 2013

Back tracking slightly as I am a little behind….I started back at work after a lovely Christmas break and the girls have been easing gently into a routine. It guess it must be difficult for F adjusting to our laid back home ed style after being in the school system for as long as she can remember. She seems to be enjoying her time with us so far, but does like to be busy!

The girls spent a lovely afternoon in town πŸ™‚ They are really enjoying a little bit of independence πŸ™‚ They have been shopping on their own before but we have always been around but this time I dropped them off, came home and went back a few hours later to meet them πŸ™‚ They shopped and did what ladies do, had a coffee in Costa before meeting up (on time) with Wayne and I at an agreed meeting point. They have also had a cinema trip to see Pitch Perfect which they loved. Very proud of my little grown ups πŸ™‚

We finally managed to get ourselves a new (to us) car πŸ™‚ We were desperate to go back to a 7 seater making do with a 5 seater for the past 6 months, especially with F living with us and the dog, it was a bit of a squeeze. A bit of a pain because the car was 2 1/2 hrs away but it did mean that we could call in to see my sister en route and leave the girls there to spend some time with their Auntie which they loved πŸ™‚ Thank you Jo! πŸ™‚

Poppy and F are signed up to join Scouts and they tried out a dance class which Poppy loved, F was not so sure as its a different style to the class she does at home but will give it a bit longer. This is a huge step for Poppy, having F here is definitely giving her confidence to try new things πŸ™‚

We were lucky enough to claim some free tickets to see a preview screening of Les Miserables prior to its release. It was fantastic , we all loved it πŸ™‚ Think the girls were a little surprised it was ALL singing but enjoyed it all the same πŸ™‚

F loves board games so we have been playing lots of Carcassone, Dog (a game F’s family gave to us on their visit in October), Blokus and Forbidden Island πŸ™‚ She is very competitive and a tactical player!

We had our first WedEd of 2013. Started off with sewing, practising stitches. They did some sciency stuff with HH who has discovered these brilliant biology experiments which she is going to work them through, Em bought along aΒ board-lessΒ role-playing game, Fuzzy Heroes Skye, Poppy and F joined in but found it a little boring. Not because it was a boring game but I just think they have grown out of role-playing games. Might have to rethink something for them for next time. Skye and Poppy really enjoyed Merry’s poetry/creative writing but unfortunately Merry has not be able to make the last couple of WedEd’s 😦 Hoping we can encourage her back sometime soon though πŸ™‚ I found this art project via PinterestΒ which I thought looked interesting and they were quite quick and fun to do πŸ™‚ The only person to get black lips was HH!!

Great start back – thank you πŸ™‚

Poppy is 12!

For the first time, for as far back as I can remember, I worked on Poppy’s birthday 😦 A complete oversight and I feel really bad about it 😦

However, I was not going to go to work without seeing my little girl open her presents πŸ™‚ She was very very tired but didn’t mind being chivvied along πŸ™‚ She received some lovely gifts and lots of money. She is not sure what she wants to buy yet so we will put it in the bank for now πŸ™‚

Unfortunately Wayne and I had to attend the funeral of our friends Dad after his sudden death only a few days before Christmas 😦

Poppy, Skye and F had a great day, watching films, gaming, crafting, using Poppy’s new hair curling wand, painting nails and doing all those other girly things πŸ™‚

I got home from work and we had Chinese take away for dinner, which was lovely πŸ™‚ Poppy enjoyed her choctastic birthday cake, we had a game of Dog and she went to bed a happy girl πŸ™‚

I didn’t get many decent photos 😦 but you can see some Skye’s blog post here πŸ™‚

Happy Birthday, we love you Popsy xx
